Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest ancient stone carving in the world at present. It is located at Qiluan Peak at the eastern foot of Emei Mountain. It was called Maitreya Buddha and Jiading Buddha in ancient times. The earliest carving was in the early years of Kaiyuan in the Tang Dynasty (7 13), which took 90 years to complete. Since 2007, Taiyuan has carried out protective development of Mengshan Giant Buddha, reinforced the Buddha's body, and built a new Buddha's head about 12 meters high with reference to the head of Beiqi Buddha unearthed in Taiyuan. In view of the important academic value of Mengshan Buddhist temple site, in 20 1520 16, a joint archaeological team composed of the Institute of Archaeology of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Taiyuan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Jinyuan District Cultural Relics and Tourism Bureau excavated the Buddhist temple site.
