How many war zones is China divided into?
China is divided into five major war zones.

Eastern Theater: Same as the former Nanjing Military Region, plus East China Sea Fleet, Air Force, Rocket Army and Armed Police. Headquartered in Nanjing, the army organ is located in Fuzhou, leading and commanding the armed forces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces and Shanghai.

Southern Theater: It includes the former Guangzhou Military Region (except Hubei Province), Yunnan-Guizhou Province and the former Chengdu Military Region, and has jurisdiction over the South China Sea Fleet, Air Force, Rocket Force and Armed Police. Headquartered in Guangzhou, the army organ is located in Nanning, leading and commanding the armed forces of Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Qiong, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.

Western Theater: The former Chengdu Military Region and Lanzhou Military Region merged (except Yunnan, Guizhou and Shaanxi provinces), with its headquarters in Chengdu and the army organ in Lanzhou, leading and commanding the armed forces in Sichuan, Tibet, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Chongqing.

Northern Theater: It governs the three northeastern provinces plus Inner Mongolia and Shandong (formerly shenyang military area command plus Inner Mongolia and Shandong), and the North Sea Fleet, Air Force, Rocket Force and Armed Police. Headquartered in Shenyang, the army organ is in Jinan, leading and commanding the armed forces of Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and Shandong.

Central Theater: It includes Beijing Military Region and jinan military area command, excluding Inner Mongolia, which belongs to Beijing Military Region, and Shandong, which belongs to jinan military area command, plus Hubei, which belongs to Guangzhou Military Region, and Shaanxi, which belongs to Lanzhou Military Region. Headquartered in Beijing, the army organ is located in Shijiazhuang, leading and commanding the armed forces in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Beijing and Tianjin.

The development of history

The military region, also known as the Grand Military Region, is a corps-level organization established according to the country's administrative region, geographical location, strategic campaign direction and combat tasks. It is the highest military leadership and command organ in a strategic region, and is generally named after the location, jurisdiction, geographical location or serial number of the leading organ.

The military region is responsible for leading and commanding all the armed forces in this strategic region and direction in wartime, leading and guiding the contract operational command of all services and arms within its jurisdiction and the military training, political work, administrative management and logistics support of its subordinate units in peacetime, and leading the militia, military service mobilization and battlefield construction within its jurisdiction. It is the highest-level integrated leading organ of our army.
