The earliest turnip beef offal was created by Hui people living in Guangzhou in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. Radish beef offal has become a popular snack in the streets and lanes because of its unprecedented unique flavor. In the forties and fifties of last century, stalls selling beef offal by carts were all over the streets of Guangzhou, which was especially popular among primary school students. There is a beef stall at the gate of almost every school. However, during the "three-year difficulty" period, due to the disappearance of cattle, beef offal also disappeared, and it did not flourish again until after the reform and opening up.
Radish beef offal has been preserved in Hong Kong for more than 20 years. When radish beef offal flourished in Guangfu area, people called it "Hong Kong-style beef offal" in order to distinguish it easily.
Nowadays, Hong Kong beef offal pays more attention to the traditional taste. It used to be Guangzhou radish beef offal with pure taste, while Guangdong beef offal absorbs the flavor of some cuisines in other regions, such as the spicy taste of Sichuan cuisine, which is an improved version of Guangzhou radish beef offal, which may be their only difference.
