Zhu Yuanzhang made up his mind to exterminate weeds and didn't want to leave his grandson with a hidden danger of death. Some people say that Shen Wansan always shows off his wealth in front of Zhu Yuanzhang, which leads to Zhu Yuanzhang's dissatisfaction. This statement is still open to question.

According to Ming History, Shen Wansan made an indelible contribution to the construction of Nanjing. He invested in the construction of a third of the capital, which can be said to have cost a lot of money to please Zhu Yuanzhang. Zhu Yuanzhang was born in poverty and had a natural sensitivity and contempt for the rich. In the Ming Dynasty, a conversation between him and Shen Wansan was recorded:

He asked Shen Wansan, I have a million troops. Can you help them all? Shen Wansan said: I can give each soldier a gold or two. Shen Wansan promised Zhu Yuanzhang two million and two thousand gold as soon as he opened his mouth. Zhu Yuanzhang couldn't figure out how much money he had. He said crossly, this is your sincerity, but I don't need it.

As soon as Zhu Yuanzhang turned to this matter, he became increasingly angry. He said to Ma Huanghou, how dare a businessman reward the emperor's army! This is the worst way to kill! Smart Ma Huanghou knew what Zhu Yuanzhang was angry with, so he coaxed him. Shen Wansan escaped death, but was sent to the frontier.

This history was recorded in the official history of the Ming Dynasty, and some people questioned it. Because according to the epitaph of Shen Wansan's son, we can see that Shen Wansan died in the late Ming Dynasty, and his sons built the ancestral temple. Zhang Shicheng occupied Suzhou on 1356, and? Shen Wansan case? The time was the sixth year of Hongwu (1373), and Shen Wansan died in 17. In the sixth year of Hongwu, Yunnan was still under the control of Beiyuan, which was not the sphere of influence of the Ming Dynasty at all. How does Shen Wansan defend Yunnan?

Therefore, this period of history may have been fabricated by the Qing people in order to label Zhu Yuanzhang as a tyrant.

But why did Shenyang still fall under Zhu Yuanzhang? There are related records in Suzhou local chronicles. When the Ming Dynasty was founded, the Shen family really gave a lot of money to support Zhu Yuanzhang, and the investor was Shen Wansan's son. Zhu Yuanzhang was not angry with them for funds, but also sealed some big officials to Shenyang children, making Shenyang a prosperous family in the early Ming Dynasty.
