China once had a territory in the middle of other countries' territories, and it was not until 1960 that China voluntarily gave it up. Why?
As we all know, China has a territorial area of more than 9.6 million square kilometers, which is the third largest country in the world and borders more than a dozen countries. Due to historical reasons, China's border territory has always been disputed with other countries. Although some border territory issues have been satisfactorily resolved, there are still some disputed territories.

Before 1960, there was an enclave in China, which was surrounded by Myanmar and not adjacent to the land of China. When China and Myanmar held consultations on the border issue in 60 years, China voluntarily gave up this land. What's going on here? The following small series will introduce you.

This enclave is the Nankan area, with a total area of 220 square kilometers, beautiful environment, many Buddhist temples and rich products. It is an ancient cultural city with a long history. Nankan is located in the south bank of Ruili City, Yunnan Province, China, facing China across the river and surrounded by all the territory of Myanmar.

Nankan area can be said to be a pearl on the edge of Ruili River and a world-famous tourist attraction. Once, an American writer wrote a novel "Hundred Mashkin", which was about what happened in Nankan area and was adapted into a movie. As a result, the Nankan area is also famous in the world.

Of course, the Namkham area is an inherent territory of China, which is indisputable in the world. However, things changed back to the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, Britain colonized Southeast Asia, and Myanmar became a British colony. Britain took a fancy to the Namkham area sandwiched between Myanmar, and the Qing Dynasty was cowardly. So Britain forced the Qing Dynasty to lease Nankan area to Britain.

Later, when World War II broke out, Japan occupied Myanmar, including Namkham. In order to resist Japanese aggression, the national government opened the channel for the allied forces to transport materials from the southwest. As a result, 654.38+ 10,000 expeditionary troops were sent to Myanmar to attack the Japanese invaders in Myanmar and successfully recover the Namkham area. The national government was unable to govern at that time, so it rented it to the British government at the price of 1000 rupees per year.

After Myanmar's independence, the Namkham area was managed by Myanmar, and the rent was changed from the British government to the Myanmar government and handed over to the China government. After the founding of New China, Myanmar has stopped paying rent.

From 65438 to 0960, China and Myanmar began negotiations on border issues. Considering the international situation at that time, in order to make the border peaceful and stable and increase the number of friendly countries, the enclave in China was really difficult to manage. So I decided to start a territorial exchange agreement with Myanmar, and the Namkham area was allocated to Myanmar. Myanmar, on the other hand, allocated its own territory, that is, the territory west of Banhong and Banlao, to China. At this point, Nankan area completely separated from China and became the territory of other countries.

In this case, it will benefit both China and Myanmar. At that time, China and the Soviet Union were hostile, and the Soviet army stationed millions on the northern border of China, which brought a lot of pressure to China. The exchange of territory with Myanmar can bring stability to the southern border. In addition, Namkham is an enclave of China, which is difficult to manage. This is indeed an important gateway to Myanmar. So this choice is the result of mutual benefit.

Of course, it's a pity for China. China lost a famous historical and cultural city on the south bank of Ruili River. How do readers view China's practice in the past 60 years? Welcome to leave a message in the comments section.
