History and culture:
Xitang was originally called Xietang, and later it was renamed Xitang. The earliest literature about Xitang occurred in the Tang Dynasty. Xitang had not yet become an administrative district, but people lived here. With the arrival of descendants of the Tang Dynasty, it was called Hu Shouli.
It was not until the Ming Dynasty that Xitang was established as a complete county seat. Xitang was called Xietang at that time. In the 12th year of Ming Dynasty, Xietang County became Xietang City. During the period of Zhengde, Xietang City was renamed Xitang. With the Japanese invasion, people here moved eastward, and Xitang was renamed Xietang. It was not until the Republic of China that Xietang was called Xitang, and it has been developed to the present ancient town of Tang Xi.
