Yueyang Tower is located in the west wall of Yueyang Ancient City, Hunan Province, overlooking Dongting and Junshan. Since ancient times, it has been known as "Dongting is the world's water and Yueyang is the world's building", and it is also known as "the three famous buildings in the south of the Yangtze River" with the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuchang, Hubei and the Wangtengting Pavilion in Nanchang, Jiangxi. With the passage of history, Lu Su's military parade building has gradually evolved into a place where people visit and enjoy the scenery.
Introduction to the history of Yueyang Tower:
In the 16th year of Yuanjia in the Southern Song Dynasty, Baqiu was renamed Baling County. Because the military parade building is located in the west gate of Baling City, it was named after the county seat, and the Lusu Yuejun Building was changed to Baling Building. At this time, poems about this building began to appear. Yan Tingzhi in the Southern and Northern Dynasties was one of the earliest poets who described Yueyang Tower. His poem "Returning to Baling Tower from County with Zhang Xiangzhou" is the first poem describing the beautiful scenery in front of Yueyang Tower.
In the Tang Dynasty, it began to be called "Yueyang Tower". At that time, Baling was renamed Yuezhou. However, from the early Tang Dynasty to the prosperous Tang Dynasty, there was still no unified name for Yueyang Tower. Some are called "South Building", some are called "Dongting Building" and some are called "Back Building".
In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, although it was popularly called "Yueyang Tower" by the people, it was really engraved in celebrity poems in the second year of Gan Yuan (AD 756). The first great writer named Yueyang Tower was poet Li Bai.
