The Historical Evolution of Datong Company
Datong was born in the era of Japanese occupation. Its predecessor was 19 18, when Lin Shangzhi and his partners founded Xiezhi Office, and started from the construction industry. Later, he invested in the field of heavy machinery, and set up "Datong Iron Works" on 1930, headquartered in Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei, with the main project of manufacturing and maintaining railway vehicles. Tamsui Line Railway once had a branch line extending from Yuanshan Station to Datong Factory to facilitate the transportation of goods in the factory.

1942, Lin Tingsheng, the only son of Lin Shangzhi, took over as the chairman and founded Datong School (now Datong University and Datong Middle School). 1949 entered the household appliances industry and heavy machinery industry, 198 1 entered the information industry. At present, it is a comprehensive industrial company covering heavy electricity, household appliances, electronics, communications, chemicals, machinery, automation equipment, information, optoelectronics, semiconductors, picture tubes and various electronic components. In recent years, due to the fierce competition in the home appliance industry in Taiwan Province Province, Datong's home appliances and cable products are quite mature, and the gross profit margin is not high. In order to improve its competitiveness, Datong successively transferred the production capacity of home appliance center and compressor to two power plants in Vietnam and Zhongshan compressor factory in Chinese mainland, Guangdong. At present, there are research and development of household appliances, global business and the production of some small household appliances in Taiwan Province Province. On March 6th, 2006, Lin Tingsheng resigned as the chairman and was replaced by Lin Tingsheng's eldest son, Lin Weishan. On May 10, 2006, Lin Tingsheng passed away, and Datong was officially in charge of the third generation of the Lins.
