The army of the Greek Coalition forces is dominated by Spartans, while the navy is dominated by the Athenian fleet. The army was annihilated by Persia at Wenquanguan (300 Sparta), but it bought time for the navy to assemble.
Extended data:
Around 750 BC, with the increase of population, the Greeks in Athens began to colonize foreign countries. In the following 250 years, new Greek city-states spread all over the Mediterranean coast, including Asia Minor and North Africa. Among many city-states, Sparta and Athens are the most powerful.
In 490 BC, the Persian Empire, located in the eastern part of Greece and powerful in Asia, in order to expand its territory, King Darius I sent Dattis and led 50,000 troops across the sea to invade the west.
Athens urgently mobilized all Athenian citizens to take part in the marathon, and sent long-distance runner Philippians to Sparta for help at night. Although Sparta agreed to send troops, it claimed that it could not send troops before the full moon.
Therefore, the task of anti-Persian invasion fell entirely on Athens. In the end, Athens, which was at a disadvantage, defeated twice its own Persian army in the marathon and won the first Persian War. But it laid the groundwork for the war between Persia, Sparta and Athens.
