When Emperor Taizong and Emperor Gaozong heard his name, they both refused to go. Later, Wu Zetian sent someone to invite him. As a last resort, he followed the envoy on his way. When I arrived at a place called "Jealous Jar", I pretended to be dead and fell flat on the road. Soon, the body also rotted. The envoy had to report to Wu Zetian truthfully. In the 23rd year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (735), when he heard that Zhang was not dead, he sent envoys to Zhongtiaoshan to invite him. When Pehu saw that Zhang's teeth were white, he was humble and looked down on him. When Zhang saw this scene, he breathed his last again. He scared Pei Hu to burn incense for help. Zhang just woke up, but he still refused to enter the palace. After listening to the performance, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty thought that Wu Pei was useless in handling affairs, so he ordered China calligrapher Xu Jiao to bring a book to invite him.
When Zhang Lao Guo entered the palace, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty asked him, "Why are your teeth so bad?" Zhang replied, "I learned it when my teeth were loose and my hair was sparse, so I have to look like this." Since your majesty asked, it is better to pull out all the teeth. " Then he pulled out all his hair and knocked out his teeth. Tang Xuanzong quickly said, "Why, sir? Go and rest. " But after a while, Zhang came out again and his face changed greatly. "Green temples and white teeth are more mature," Tang Xuanzong was very surprised.
Tang Xuanzong admired Zhang and named him Dr. and Mr. Guanglu. There is also a good sister named Princess who wants to marry Zhang. Unexpectedly, Zhang insisted on not accepting it, and even sang: "Married a woman, got a princess, and ten places were promoted. People think this is gratifying, but I think it is awesome. " After singing, I laughed a lot, then took out the paper donkey, blew it into shape and rode it backwards.
Since then, Zhang has traveled around the world, drumming on fishing drums and singing sermons among Han people, which has convinced the world. Therefore, people called Zhang the ancestor of "Sangdaoqing". The so-called Taoist feelings originated from Taoist songs in the Tang Dynasty, which took Taoist stories as the theme and promoted the idea of being born. It was widely circulated in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The theme is also more extensive, and combined with Han folk songs from all over the country, it has developed into a variety of folk arts such as Daoqing in northern Shaanxi, Daoqing in Yiwu, Yugu in Hubei, Yugu in Shandong and Zhu Qin in Sichuan. At the invitation of Zhang Ying, he met in Jiangjinshan, Chongqing in the dead of winter in the four years of Gande in the Northern Song Dynasty. On the way back from riding a donkey, he saw a beggar's mother and daughter snuggling together on the roadside. Beggars are about 40 years old and girls are about 8 years old. The girl cried in front of her mother who was freezing to death. The scene is extremely tragic. At this moment, an old man who was batting cotton wadding passed by. Seeing this tragic situation, he immediately covered the beggar with new cotton wool that he had just given to others, and took out his own food for the beggar's mother and daughter to eat. Zhang was moved by what he saw. He immediately got off the donkey and came forward to help and treat the beggar until he recovered.
Zhang turned and asked the old man who was batting cotton wool: Brother, what's your last name? This charity is earth-shattering! The old man replied: the little old man's surname is Cui, and his home is across the street. This is a small thing that people who see it should do. Zhang admired what the old man said so lightly and simply! He took out his cane, chopped the big stone into a huge square column on the spot, and wrote what he saw and heard on all sides of the column, praising the merits of the old man, so as to warn the whole village to learn from the kindness of the old man! When he left, Zhang said to the old man, your craft is too hard. I want to give your descendants a golden hill, and let your descendants use this golden hill Puji village to drive one side.
In the future, the person who will be crowned with multiple gold names in your descendants is that person. But don't deliberately. Zhang put the stone tablet there, gave the beggar woman and her mother a lot of money, and rode away. This stone tablet is called "square stone tablet" because it is engraved with words on all sides. The old man watched Zhang ride away on a donkey and knew that he had met a fairy. After thinking about the old man's words, I don't know what word is the most "golden". Since the immortal said "fate", don't deliberately think about it. See if my descendants of the Cui Shi family can bump into his name in the future. Later, according to people's analysis, because the word "Xin" is the most used gold in Jinshan, if there is a person named in the descendants of the old man, then Zhang's legend should be fulfilled. According to the textual research of the famous scholar Hua Xuanju, there is indeed a place name at the foot of Shisun Mountain in Jiangjin, but there is no textual research. There is an ancient temple on the hillside of Cai Li. A long time ago, there was an old monk and three monks in the temple. Zhang, the youngest monk, not only waits on the old monk, but also does chores such as chopping wood and carrying water. One night, Zhang filled the jar with water. The next day, a drop was useless, and there was nothing in the jar. The old monk called him lazy. Zhang didn't know why, so he had to fill the tank again. The next day, the water in the jar was used up again. The old monk got angry and beat him up. Zhang was very wronged, surprised and determined to find out. At night, he picked up a full tank of water and hid in the dark to peep. In the middle of the night, two chubby, light-skinned children suddenly ran into the jar from outside the temple and put their heads into the jar to drink water. Zhang stepped forward to catch him, but he disappeared in an instant. Lao Guo told the old monk truthfully what he saw. The old monk told Zhang to fill the jar with water and keep quiet. In the evening, the old monk took a steel needle, sewed a long wool, and hid Lao Guo in the dark not far from the water tank. Soon, sure enough, two naked children came to the water tank to drink water again. When the old monk put their heads in the jar, he ran forward and inserted the steel needle into the child's armpit. There was only a scream of "wow" and the child was gone again. The old monk and Lao Guo searched for the corner outside the temple along the wool, and the red line entered the ground. The old monk asked Lao Guo to dig with a shovel. As a result, he dug up two things that looked like human bodies. Knowing that it was ginseng, the old monk put the fruit on the fire and told him not to taste it.
Zhang put what he dug into the pot, made a fire and cooked for a while. The aroma was tangy and the fruit made his mouth water. He took it out and tasted it. It's delicious. Lao Guo was still drooling, so he took it out and ate it up. Guo was afraid that the old monk would blame him, so he beat him and wanted to get away with it. When I left the temple gate, I saw a donkey tied to a tree. I turned around and took out the soup left in the pot for the donkey to drink. Then I rode on the donkey's back and fled east. Afraid that the old monk would come after him, he rode his donkey backwards to look back. Later generations said that Zhang's immortal became immortal after drinking the soup, and the donkey became a god donkey after drinking the soup. Since then, Lao Guo has traveled around the world on a donkey. Xian Weng, surnamed Zhang, was born in Guangzong, Xingzhou. He hides in a mountain in Xiangyang and often haunts Xingming. It used to be said that he rode a white donkey and traveled thousands of miles a day. When he repaired it, he folded it and put it in a towel box as thick as paper. As usual, bring it here and spray it with water. At the beginning of Xingzhou, there was a mountain about three miles northwest. Weng often plays and sees the water gushing out, and the residents around Yunmeng Mountain are miserable. Weng pointed to Jing Quan and stayed forever. Because of the name of the well, he said "refers to the holy". One night I went to Zhaozhou to cross the bridge and asked the natives: Can I cross the bridge? Everyone laughed and said: this bridge is like a horse, and the rhinoceros walks like nothing. Is it difficult for the donkey? When Weng reached the bridge, the bridge shook and then it was dissolved! Up to now, hat prints and hoof prints are still there. In the twenty-third year of Kaiyuan, the benefits of God were remarkable. When Xuanzong heard about it, he sent the scholar to meet him late and went into the palace with his shoulders on his back. If he tried magic, he would not be poor, and he was treated with courtesy every day. Taoist Ye Fashan knows better. Xuanzong said, who is the fruit? Law and goodness are right: chaos is not divided, that is, there is a fruit god. Xuanzong said, "If you believe in God and go south, the fruit will become a cloud." . Then it was ordered to name the mountain Xianweng Mountain, build a view of Qixia, and set up a temple for sacrifice, which has been burning incense ever since. He also burned three hectares of fields for the abbot and Taoist priest, with 15 mu of sacred wells in the north, 10 mu of wells in the east, 50 mu of Daluling, Xiaogu Mountain in the southeast, Baihua Mountain in the southwest, Longmen Gorge in the northwest and mountains in the northeast. Li Shantong, disciple of Taoist Ye Fashan, worships him!
The above original text comes from the ancient tablet of Tang Kaiyuan in the 23rd year on Zhang Lao Guo Mountain in Xingtai City recorded by Xingtai County.
Tang Xuanzong summoned him several times to seek eternal life. Tang Xuanzong saw Zhang, who was old and frail. He asked, "Mr. Wang is an enlightened man. Why is he so careless and senile? " Zhang Dui said, "People without magic are aging, so it's a shame to become like this. However, if these sparse residual teeth are pulled out today, won't new ones grow? "So he pulled out his sideburns in front of his temples and knocked out his teeth. Xuanzong was a little scared and asked someone to help Zhang to rest. After a while, Zhang returned to the temple. Sure enough, his face was refreshed, his temples were green and his teeth were white. So the dignitaries at that time rushed to worship the secret of rejuvenation, but they were all rejected by him.
In the twenty-first year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, Wei Ji, the secretariat of Hengzhou, played his anecdotes to the emperor. Xuanzong called him, and Zhang Guo pretended to be dead. It took him a long time to wake up, so the messenger was afraid to go forward. Xuanzong heard about it and sent Xu Jiao to invite him. Zhang Guo has to go to Beijing. It is said that Tang Xuanzong doubted his rumors. He once asked Xing Hepu, who was good at calculating the good and evil of dying young, to tell Zhang's fortune. I don't know Zhang Jiazi, but a teacher is good at ghosts. Xuanzong asked him to see Zhang Guo, but he asked, "Where is Zhang Guo?" I didn't see it across the street. According to historical records, Zhang Guo was just an old liar with a guilty conscience. Otherwise, why not play dead a few times to avoid being drafted? At best, it is an illusion. Therefore, the fairy tales about him are all fabricated by Taoism for the purpose of propaganda, relying on folk rumors and exaggeration. "Tai Ping Guang Ji" also records that Zhang claimed to be Emperor Yao. When Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty asked the warlock "Ye Fashan" Zhang about his origin, Ye Fashan said, "If you dare not speak, you will die." Later, he said, "Zhang Guo is a white bat essence in the beginning of chaos." He fell to the ground dead. After Xuanzong intervened, Zhang Guo saved him.
Once, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty went hunting and caught a big deer, which was slightly different from ordinary deer. The cook was about to cut the deer when Zhang saw it and stopped it quickly, saying, "This is a fairy deer, which is over 1000 years old. I followed Emperor Wu when he was hunting. Although Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty captured the deer, he later released it. Xuanzong said, "The world is big and there are many deer, but times have changed. How do you know that he is the deer you mentioned? " Zhang Dui said, "When Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty released it, he made a sign in the lower left corner with a bronze medal on it." So Xuanzong ordered someone to check. Sure enough, there are two-inch bronze medals, but the handwriting is blurred. Xuanzong asked again, "When did Emperor Wu hunt? How many years? Zhang said, "It has been 852 years." Tang Xuanzong ordered people to check, which is correct.
Zhang Guishan died soon, and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty built the Qixia Temple for him. The most impressive thing is Zhang's mount and riding method. He rode a paper donkey, facing backward, and walked backwards on the donkey's back. This donkey is no ordinary donkey. It can "Wan Li several lines a day". You can fold it up and put it in your pocket when you rest. If necessary, "it will be frozen into a donkey." This donkey can cross the ocean. It is omnipotent. In ancient times, there were poems praising Zhang:
How many people in the world,
Nothing like this old man;
Instead of riding a donkey backwards,
Looking back on everything.
Zhang rode backwards on a donkey.

Legend has it that Zhang was an official in North Korea and saved a lot of money. Later, he felt that it was not easy to be an official, and he was afraid that he would be laughed at if he couldn't do it, so he resigned and returned to his hometown. Walking, I came to the edge of my hometown camp. I saw a girl in the distance, slim, picking cotton in the field. I chatted with others and flirted with that girl. I didn't know that the girl was my own daughter until she was taken away by the girl. I can't wait to get into the cracks and feel embarrassed to go home. I quickly turned around and went to the mountains to practice. Later, he turned over a new leaf and became an immortal. Zhang didn't go back to his hometown, but he always took this wrong thing to heart. He felt embarrassed to meet everyone, and since then, he has been riding a donkey with his back forward.

There is a folk song called Cowherd in Hebei Province, which is a household name. Everybody knows that. Who will come to Zhao Zhouqiao to repair it? Who will leave the jade railing? Who rode the donkey bridge? Who rolled a ditch with a trolley? Master Lu Ban restored Zhao Zhouqiao, and the sage left a jade railing. Zhang rode across the donkey bridge, and Chai's car rolled into a ditch. This is a very interesting legend. It is said that there was a skillful craftsman named Lu Ban in ancient times who built a big stone bridge on the river in the southern suburb of Zhaozhou City overnight. Fairy Zhang heard about it and rode a donkey to see it. On the way, he met the car of King Chai County, and Zhao Kuangyin pulled the car, so the three of them came to the riverside in the suburbs to see the bridge. After seeing Zhao Zhouqiao, all three people secretly marveled at Luban's exquisite skills. In order to test Lu Ban, Zhang and Lu Ban bet that if the three of them can cross the bridge smoothly and the bridge does not fall, they will ride the donkey backwards from now on. When three people stepped onto the bridge, Zhang turned to cast spells, collected the sun, moon and stars, and put them in the wallet. Chai Daguan and he also used magic to gather the five mountains together and quietly put them on the unicycle. Due to the surge in load, the bridge could not bear it and began to shake. Seeing this, Lu Ban jumped into the river, raised a hand and tried his best to hold the bridge, which turned a corner. Zhang threw in the towel face to face and began to ride backwards. Wheel prints and donkey's hoof prints were left on the bridge deck, as well as knee prints left by Master Chai after he slipped. At the bottom of the east side of the bridge vault, Lu Ban left a big handprint when he held the bridge hard.
Why does Zhang ride a donkey backwards?
Zhang said that riding a donkey backwards is because he thinks it is impolite to walk with his back to the front of the person behind him, and it is too bad that others have their back to their front. It's only fair to walk backwards, with your face facing someone else's face, to show politeness, and someone's back facing your back.
