Someone shouted, "Zhang, a traitor to the Party, a scum of the China Revolution and a sinner of history! Strongly appeal to the higher authorities to stop this ridiculous behavior! " Someone said, "It's incredible that the former residence of a rebel and an ambitious man also spends money to repair it." Historians believe that the relics of historical figures, whether positive or negative, should be properly protected and restored to their original colors.
Article 2 of the Law on the Protection of Cultural Relics stipulates that "important historical sites, cultural relics and representative buildings which are related to major historical events, revolutionary movements or famous people in modern times and have great commemorative, educational or historical value" are protected by the state. According to this, Zhang's former residence should be protected, which has nothing to do with whether Zhang is a historical sinner. What's more, the so-called "historical sinner" itself is an ideological concept with considerable flexibility.
