During the Cultural Revolution, the China People's Political Consultative Conference stopped, and the National People's Congress held its fourth session on 1975.

After the Cultural Revolution, the Fifth National People's Congress and China People's Political Consultative Conference were held in March 1978. Since then, the two sessions have been held together, with the same number of sessions, once every five years.
