The World Universiade is sponsored by the International University Sports Federation, including the Summer Games and the Winter Games. Held once every two years, only for college students and people who have graduated less than two years (age 17-28).

The Universiade began at 1959, and its predecessor was the International Universiade, which has been held for 30 times since 1959. All the specified events of the Universiade are Olympic events, and the competition management is implemented by international individual sports organizations in accordance with Olympic standards.
