The Background of Hope in Spring
According to relevant public information, Spring Watch was written by Du Fu in Chang 'an during the Anshi Rebellion. An Lushan rose up against the Tang Dynasty. Because he was partial to Yang Guifei's younger brother Yang and misled him, he sent Ge Shuhan, who was guarding Tongguan, to attack the rebel base camp outside the customs. Geshuhan was captured halfway, and An Lushan lost his rival in love. Chang 'an was captured at once. Tang Xuanzong led his concubine and prince to Lingwu and his ministers. From August of Li Yuannian (756), Du Fu arrived from Zhangzhou via Lingwu. On the way, he was captured by rebels and later trapped in Chang 'an. This poem was written in March of the following year.
