Where is the "Roman Village" in Gansu? Why is it called "Roman Village"?
Gansu "Roman Village": In Yongchang County, Gansu Province, there are three tall humanoid sculptures standing in the core area of the county. Different from the sculptures of historical figures in China that we usually see, these three sculptures of two men and one woman depict the brand image of foreigners: curly hair, high nose, sunken eyes and big figure. Then why are there sculptures of foreigners on the land of China? The answer is recorded on the marble behind the sculpture. It turns out that these two men and one woman are both Greeks.

The reason why it is called "Roman village" is that the local people are all descendants of Rome, which is cheap and good. In 53 AD, after the defeat of the war, many crassus and Roman troops marching eastward to rest in the empire were separated. Later, some of them were often used by the Huns and became the Xiongnu army. After the Sino-Hungarian War, this Roman team was captured by the Han Dynasty and settled in Li Gan County (now Yongchang County), so it thrived here until the present age. According to Chen Han Tang Biography, in 36 AD, Gan Yanshou, the capital of the Western Regions, was sent to pacify Khan in Saibei because of the unreasonable anger of the northern Xiongnu.

Shang Chen happened to be a captain of the Western Regions' Duhufu, and he was still in the team of the Western Expedition Army, so he recorded the Western Expedition Army as follows. The Han Army and the Xiongnu Army were finally in the same room in Zhi Zhi, but in the case of confrontation with the Xiongnu Army, the Han Army led by Chen Tang met a group of officers and men who were later identified as the First Army by historical archaeologists. I only saw that these officers and men in strange clothes knew the editing methods of fish scale array and huge shield array (only in ancient Roman army). With the victory of the Han army, the city of Zhi Zhi was completed, and the Han army captured thousands of people, including Roman soldiers formerly known as the First Army of the Roman Crusaders.

In order to accommodate these Roman soldiers, the Han Dynasty specially designated an area in Hexi Corridor of Gansu Province as his residential area, namely "Li Gan County" in the Han Dynasty and Yongchang County today. Zhelai Village in Yongchang County is often called "Roman Village". There are not only the square pavilions built in ancient Rome-Li Gan Pavilion, but also the ruins of the dilapidated ancient city in Li Gan, telling the thousand-year history of Li Gan County. However, in Hetan Village, which is very close to Zhelaizhai, there are still more than 20 descendants of Roman soldiers. Descendants of ancient Rome, apart from their different lineages, have been harmed and even assimilated by the civilized behavior of the Han people for thousands of years, and their daily life and behavior are no different from those of the local Han people.
