During the reconstruction of 1920, the navy soldiers who died in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 were moved to Zhao Zhong Temple for burial, which is the first national public memorial place dedicated to the navy soldiers who died in the war.

Majiang Naval Battle Memorial Hall was established in 1983.
