Coconut trees originated in the Malay Archipelago and are widely distributed in tropical coastal and inland areas of Asia, Africa, Oceania and America, mainly between 20 degrees north and south latitude, with the most distribution in equatorial coastal areas. Coconut cultivation in China has a long history of more than 2,000 years, mainly distributed in Hainan, Yunnan and Maldives.
Coconut tree growth environment
Without adequate water, sunshine and proper temperature, coconut trees can't grow. Generally, they grow by the sea, and the fruit will fall into the sea when it matures. Because seawater drifts to other places, takes root and germinates on the suitable beach, and its shell has a thick layer of coarse fiber, so it has great buoyancy in water and is not easy to rot.
Coconut growth conditions
Coconut likes the conditions of high temperature, high humidity, abundant sunshine and sea breeze. The suitable annual average temperature is above 24~25 degrees, and the most suitable growth temperature is between 26~27 degrees. The temperature difference in the planting area is small, frost-free all the year round, and it can blossom and bear fruit well. Coconut is suitable to grow in low altitude areas below 150-200m, and the annual rainfall is above 1500-2000mm. If there is a lot of rainfall, plants will grow vigorously, and if there is little rainfall, plants will grow well.
Vegetation process
Old coconuts will grow slowly in a humid environment. When 4-5 leaves grow, the bottom begins to take root. Coconut stems and leaves are getting thicker and thicker, which will separate from coconut shells. If they meet enough water in the future, they will continue to grow. When the trunk grows to 20-30 meters high, it will bear fruit next year.
