The most intuitive example is the weakness of the Qing army in the Qing-Burma War. Speaking of the fact that the Qing Dynasty was able to enter the customs smoothly, it was proud of the bravery and skill of the Eight Banners. However, after entering the Central Plains, the number of Jurchen was too small compared with the Han people in the Central Plains, so on this basis, green camp was established. Green camp was brought by the Han army who entered the customs from the Qing army. In the middle of Qing Dynasty, it replaced the Eight Banners and became the elite troops of Qing Dynasty.
After the establishment of the Kampong Dynasty in Myanmar, the local people suffered from harassment and extortion in the land areas of Yunnan. Later, these chieftains reported to the Qing government, hoping to send troops to help. However, during the Qianlong period, the Qing government was too busy to buy off Junggar. It was not until twenty-seven years after Qianlong that they pulled out and carried out military oppression on some countries that challenged the authority of the Qing Dynasty, such as Myanmar.
However, the facts have witnessed how corrupt and incompetent the Qing army is. Since the twenty-seventh year of Qianlong's war against Myanmar, although the number of the Qing army was more than that of the Burmese army, it was basically a situation of repeated wars and defeats. In the eyes of Burmese soldiers, the Qing army has a particularly prominent advantage, that is, it runs fast. In this war, the Qing army took the initiative, but it repeatedly missed, and both sides were very tired.
Strategic contempt for opponents is an important factor in the failure of the Qing army. You know, when the Burmese army attacked the border for the first time, Liu Zao, the governor of Yunnan, was very contemptuous of the Burmese army. He paid a few times carelessly, even when he led green camp to pursue the Burmese army for the last time, he fell into a crouching position. Because he failed to achieve the strategic goal of Qianlong, Liu Zao was eventually dismissed, and later had to be led by the neck because of excessive psychological pressure.
After Yang replaced Liu Zao, he fought several modest battles, which was a win-win situation. However, at that time, the imperial court was arrogant, especially Qianlong, and did not intend to invest too much experience in the Qing-Myanmar war, which made Yang Qianlu very difficult. Later, he was dismissed for lying about his military status.
On the other hand, the fighting capacity of the Qing army is weak. The first is the Eight Banners. These soldiers, who were brave and good at fighting at the beginning of their entry, had been corrupted as early as the Qianlong period. Although Yunnan has green camp, it has been neglected in the war, and the better the weapons and equipment, the better. Burmese soldiers even found muskets sold by the East India Company in their hands. Because they failed to realize the disadvantages in the war, the Qing Dynasty finally went downhill in complacency.
