Surnamed tang originated from the Feng family, and came from the ancient Prince (Hao) Fu Shizi Tang, belonging to his ancestral surname. Legend has it that Fuxi married his sister Nuwa and gave birth to ten children. Fuxi advocated the sun and called the ten sons "Yin", which was also recorded as "Yin" and "Yang" in later history books.
Separated in Tangshan (Du Xian, Ling Du, now Xi, Shaanxi), their descendants mostly take Juyi as their surname, which has been passed down from generation to generation and is one of the very old surnames. The correct pronunciation of this surnamed tang is yáng(ㄧㄤˊ), and some people in surnamed tang respect Fuxi and Nuwa as ancestors of their surnames, which are not the same genealogy as their children's surnames.
