The city's cultivated land area is 6.59 million mu, with per capita cultivated land 1.28 mu. Agricultural production conditions are unique, and there are many kinds of crops, trees, aquatic products and livestock and poultry.
Suqian is a high-quality agricultural and sideline products producing area, rich in grain, cotton, oil, cocoon, wood, flowers and so on. The three counties under its jurisdiction are all national commodity grain base counties. Suqian is a famous "hometown of poplars", and the four counties under its jurisdiction are all advanced counties in plain greening in China, with timber forest/kloc-0.33 million mu and standing trees of 7 million cubic meters. Shuyang County is a well-known "hometown of flowers" with a wide variety of flowers and seedlings.
Suqian is a famous "hometown of aquatic products" at home and abroad, with a water area of more than 3.5 million mu. There are two lakes (Hongze Lake and Roman Lake) and four rivers (Grand Canal, Huaihe River, yi river River and Shuhe River) in the territory, of which the water quality of the two lakes has reached the national second-class standard, and there are more than 50 kinds of aquatic products such as whitebait, shrimp and crab. Sihong County was also named "Crab Town of China" by the former Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.
Suqian is rich in mineral resources and large in nonmetallic mineral reserves. At present, the minerals that have been discovered, proved and developed mainly include quartz sand, kyanite, silica, crystal, phosphate rock and yellow sand. The minerals to be explored and mined include mica, diamonds, copper, iron, oil and potassium ores.
