Suqian, located in the north of Jiangsu Province, is one of the centers of biological evolution and human origin in the world and is known as the "holy land of life" on the earth. The gibbon fossils discovered in China date back more than 654.38+million years, which is the earliest ape fossils discovered in Asia so far. On the bank of Huaihe River, ancestors lived near the water 50,000 years ago, which is called "Xiacaowan People's Cultural Site". According to legend, in the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, an ancient clan Xu Yi lived here. In 1 13 BC, Surabaya Kingdom established its capital here, which lasted 132 years. Xia Xiang County was established in Qin Dynasty, Suyu County in Eastern Jin Dynasty, and Suqian was renamed in the first year of Baoying in Tang Daizong. In the long history, Suqian has cultivated countless outstanding figures in the history of lighting. Xiang Yu, the overlord of the Western Chu Dynasty, his wife Yu Ji and Song Changrong, a Peking Opera actress, are all good children of Suqian people. Shen Kuo, a scientist in the Northern Song Dynasty, was the master and magistrate of Shuyang, and Yuan Mei, a poet in the late Qing Dynasty, was the magistrate of Shuyang. Suqian has beautiful scenery and numerous landscapes. Emperor Qianlong visited Jiangnan six times and stationed in Suqian five times, praising Suqian as "the first spring profit".

The city's cultivated land area is 6.59 million mu, with per capita cultivated land 1.28 mu. Agricultural production conditions are unique, and there are many kinds of crops, trees, aquatic products and livestock and poultry.

Suqian is a high-quality agricultural and sideline products producing area, rich in grain, cotton, oil, cocoon, wood, flowers and so on. The three counties under its jurisdiction are all national commodity grain base counties. Suqian is a famous "hometown of poplars", and the four counties under its jurisdiction are all advanced counties in plain greening in China, with timber forest/kloc-0.33 million mu and standing trees of 7 million cubic meters. Shuyang County is a well-known "hometown of flowers" with a wide variety of flowers and seedlings.

Suqian is a famous "hometown of aquatic products" at home and abroad, with a water area of more than 3.5 million mu. There are two lakes (Hongze Lake and Roman Lake) and four rivers (Grand Canal, Huaihe River, yi river River and Shuhe River) in the territory, of which the water quality of the two lakes has reached the national second-class standard, and there are more than 50 kinds of aquatic products such as whitebait, shrimp and crab. Sihong County was also named "Crab Town of China" by the former Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.

Suqian is rich in mineral resources and large in nonmetallic mineral reserves. At present, the minerals that have been discovered, proved and developed mainly include quartz sand, kyanite, silica, crystal, phosphate rock and yellow sand. The minerals to be explored and mined include mica, diamonds, copper, iron, oil and potassium ores.
