The Historical Development of Hanyang Rifle
The prototype of this gun is the German 1888 Committee rifle (Gewehr 88 or GEWE88 for short). Due to the difficulties in reloading, poor reliability of shell extraction and easy explosion, the German army replaced it with Mao Se 1898 rifle in 1898. This rifle was then resold to the Qing government in Turkey, some African countries and China.

German businessmen lied that the 1888 rifle was a Mao Se rifle based on the superstition of the Westernization School of the Qing government on the brand "Mao Se", and successfully sold the design materials and production machinery to the Qing government. Therefore, starting from 1896, Hanyang Arsenal began to produce this type of rifle and named it "88". From 65438 to 0899, Jiangnan Manufacturing Bureau also began to produce this type of rifle. From 65438 to 0944, this type of rifle was produced in China for nearly 50 years. It was the longest light weapon produced in China at that time, and it was also the main gun type of various armed forces' light weapons and equipment in China during the Qing government's new army's arrival in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Because the main manufacturer of this kind of gun is Hanyang Arsenal located in Hanyang, Hubei Province, it is generally called Hanyang Manufacturing. At the same time, the early imported German 1888 rifles used full-length barrel sleeves, and the domestic imitations also used full-length barrel sleeves in the early days, so their early gun types were also called "old-fashioned".

1904, Hanyang Arsenal improved the gun, removed the barrel sleeve, replaced it with the upper guard wood, changed the bayonet yard under the front guard hoop, and referred to the German 1898 rifle, improved the door, changed the whole bar into the guard wood, and so on.

Due to the long production time, this gun was used in almost all battles in China in the early years of the Republic of China, including the Revolution of 1911. According to a soldier from the 8th town (division) of 2 1 New Army, all rifles in the 8th town were produced by Hanyang Arsenal. Therefore, on the night of191010, Cheng Dingguo's first shot should have been fired in Hanyang, which started the Revolution of 1911 that overthrew the Millennium monarchy. From the Revolution of 1911 to the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, guns have always played a role in the battlefield, which is a legendary myth in the history of China War.
