The history of Jiaotong University originated from the Shipbuilding Department of National Maritime Vocational School established in 1946. 1949 Wuhan liberation. On the basis of the Maritime Vocational School, Central South Jiaotong University was established, and shipbuilding specialty was set up. 1952 the national colleges and departments were adjusted, and the shipbuilding major was transferred to Shanghai jiaotong university. 1958 with the development of national economy, our school resumed and rebuilt the major of ship engineering. 1963 when the colleges directly under the Ministry of Communications made professional adjustment, the Department of Ship Engineering of Dalian Maritime University was adjusted to Wuhan as a whole, and merged with the Department of Ship Engineering of our school to form the Department of Ship Engineering. After 1978, in order to meet the needs of the development of shipbuilding industry, undergraduate majors such as ship design and manufacturing, ship technology and equipment, ship structural mechanics, ship fluid mechanics, ship trade, ship inspection and so on were successively opened.

The Department of Road and Bridge Engineering originated from the Department of Civil Engineering established by 1949 Central South Jiaotong University. At that time, there were three majors of highway civil engineering, highway bridge and mechanical automation, and 1952 was transferred to Hunan University, South China University of Technology and Jiangxi University. 65438-0988 Our school resumed the Department of Civil Engineering, majoring in highways and urban roads, and changed its name to the major of traffic civil engineering, civil engineering, road and bridge and river crossing engineering.

Transportation management originated from 1952. On the occasion of the adjustment of national colleges and universities, our school has set up the majors of water transport management and water transport economy. The colleges directly under the Ministry of Communications adjusted the above two majors to Shanghai Maritime College when they were adjusted in 1963. 1983 the enrollment of water transport management major in our school resumed. 1993 Wuhan institute of river transport merged with Wuhan institute of water transport engineering. After the merger of the original major of water transport management in Wuhan Heyun College, it was renamed as the major of transportation management, and the Department of Transportation Management was established.

65438-0999, the Department of Ship Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering merged to form the School of Ship and Civil Engineering. The undergraduate majors of ship design and manufacturing, ship technology and equipment, ship trade and ship inspection were merged and renamed as ship and ocean engineering. At the same time, the two majors of ship structural mechanics and ship fluid mechanics were renamed as engineering mechanics, and separated from the department of ship engineering to form the department of structural engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering was renamed the Department of Road and Bridge Engineering. After the merger of the three universities, the School of Ship and Civil Engineering and the Department of Transportation Management merged on 200 1 to form the School of Transportation. In the same year, the major of traffic engineering was established and enrolled, and it was affiliated to the Department of Transportation Management. In 2004, according to the needs of discipline development, the major of traffic engineering was separated from the Department of Transportation Management and the Department of Traffic Engineering was established.

The majors set up by the college involve four first-class disciplines, namely, ship and ocean engineering, civil engineering, mechanics and traffic engineering, and there are five undergraduate majors, namely, ship and ocean engineering, transportation, traffic engineering, port and waterway engineering, and road and bridge and river crossing engineering.

Scientific research platforms, such as key laboratory of high-speed ship engineering, key laboratory of high-performance ship technology, ship and ocean engineering design and research institute, ship technology and equipment research institute, structural engineering design and research institute, engineering fluid mechanics research institute, civil engineering design and research institute, transportation and logistics planning research institute, shipbuilding history research center and so on, as well as experimental center serving teaching, scientific research and society, CCCC ship and bridge engineering quality supervision and testing center, Wuhan CCCC traffic engineering consulting and supervision center, bridge and road health maintenance engineering center, etc. Around the transportation field, a multidisciplinary development pattern has been formed, which combines land and water, soft and hard, and foundation and application.
