Historical Evolution of South China Tiger Provincial Nature Reserve in Northern Guangdong Province
1990, Guangdong Province took the lead in establishing the South China Tiger Provincial Nature Reserve in northern Guangdong, covering 60 townships 19 forest farms in six counties (cities) including Shixing, Nanxiong, Renhua, Lechang, Ruyuan and Qujiang, with a total area of 290,000 hectares.

1999 set up a wildlife herbarium with a building area of 600㎡, which is mainly used to display wildlife specimens.

In 2008, Shaoguan National Forest Park established the South China Tiger Breeding Research Base. According to the new adjustment plan of the South China Tiger Provincial Nature Reserve in northern Guangdong, the protected area has been reduced from more than 290,000 hectares in the early 1990s to 1.6 million hectares. The two core areas of the reserve are located in Yangzi Town, Renhua County and shaping town, Lechang City respectively. The area is only equivalent to 1/20 of the original protected area.

In 2008, the reserve initially launched the South China Tiger Wild Training Project, with an investment of more than 300,000 yuan.
