Although the Buddha was destroyed in Tang Wuzong, it was rebuilt in the 11th year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (AD 877). The statues, murals, stone carvings, tomb towers and buildings outside the temple are all relics of the Tang Dynasty.
Beixing was discovered by Liang Sicheng in 1937.
