Bukharin was arrested in February 1937 and sentenced to death in March 1938. Only 50 years old. On the eve of the execution, Bukharin wrote the last letter to the next generation of the Soviet Union with a belief in truth. When he was arrested, his wife was only 23 years old, and he was sure that she would live to see the day when he was rehabilitated. He knelt at his wife's feet with tears in his eyes, asking her to forgive him for ruining her life, asking her to train her son into a Bolshevik, asking her to do her best for his ordinary recovery in the future, and asking her not to forget every word in his suicide note. He said firmly to his wife, You are still young, and you will live to that day. You swear that you will remember every word of my letter. When Bukharin's wife took the oath, he got up from the ground, hugged her, kissed her and said in a trembling voice, don't complain, there are always terrible mistakes in history, but the truth will be restored one day. He believes that his suicide note will be searched. Therefore, after his wife recited the contents of the suicide note word for word, he destroyed it himself.
