Two historical periods of the development of New China and their relationship.
The two periods of the development of New China are before and after the reform and opening up.

The relationship between the two historical periods before and after China's reform and opening up comes down in one continuous line and is unified in exploring Socialism with Chinese characteristics's great practice. The road comes step by step, and the first step is followed by the second step. The revolution, construction and reform led by our Party is also a grand undertaking that comes down in one continuous line and is handed down from generation to generation. It is a historical process of continuous struggle and a complete undertaking.

Although different stages of struggle and different historical periods show different characteristics, the two historical periods before and after the reform and opening up are the same process of socialist construction led by our party, and they are by no means separated, let alone fundamentally opposed.

The exploration in the 30 years before the reform and opening up, especially after 1957, has made great achievements in politics, economy and culture, laying a preliminary foundation for the future development of China, and China has changed from a poor agricultural country to a strong country with initial industrialization. The report of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China also pointed out that the achievements of this period laid the foundation for the great cause of reform and opening up, and it was also one of the important essential links between the two historical periods.

The establishment of development themes and main lines in two historical periods before and after the reform and opening up is determined by three basic factors: 1. After the Opium War, China became a semi-colonial and semi-feudal country, and the Chinese nation faced two major historical tasks: one was to achieve national independence and people's liberation, and the other was to achieve national prosperity and people's prosperity. Only by completing the previous tasks can we clear the obstacles and create the necessary premise for completing the following tasks.

2. The motive force of social development in New China. This includes the leadership of the party and the historical role of the people. Realizing the country's prosperity and people's prosperity together is the meaning of the basic program of China's * * * Production Party, and it is also the goal pursued by the people of China in modern times.

3. Practical experience of socialism. In the first few years after the founding of New China, our party lacked the experience of socialist construction, drew lessons from many Soviet practices and took some detours.
