What does Laos mean?
Laos means People's Democratic Republic.

Lao People's Democratic Republic, hereinafter referred to as Laos (Lao:; English: Laos). It is a landlocked country, located in the north of Indochina Peninsula, bordering China in the north, Cambodia in the south, Vietnam in the east, Myanmar in the northwest and Thailand in the southwest.

The Mekong River in Laos is 777.4 kilometers long and flows through Vientiane, the capital. It belongs to tropical and subtropical monsoon climate.

Laos was once a part of the Kingdom of Zhenla in history. /kloc-the kingdom of Lancang (known as Nanzhang in China) was established in the 4th century./kloc-split in the early 8th century and was invaded by Siam and Vietnam, and then by France. 1893 became a French colony. 1945 became independent, 1975 abolished the monarchy and established the Republic.

1997 joined the association of southeast Asian nations in July and has established diplomatic relations with 142 countries. Under the socialist system, the Lao People's Revolutionary Party is the only political party in Laos.

Laos is dominated by agriculture, with weak industry and service industry and abundant water resources, producing teak, pears and other precious wood. There are also tin, lead, potassium salt, copper, iron, gold, rare earth and other mineral deposits. So far, gold, copper, coal, potassium salt and coal have been mined. Laos and China established diplomatic relations on April 25th, 196 1. The Lao government pursues the one-China policy and supports the great cause of China's peaceful reunification.
