Xiao on the Korean peninsula first appeared in the Three Kingdoms period, and Xiao was found in the No.3 ancient tomb group of Koguryo Anyue. At that time, Xiao was painted on the east wall of the back room of the ancient tomb with Ruan Xian and Qin. Although the patterns on the murals were only depicted by simple lines at that time, from the player's posture, it can be concluded that this instrument is a single-pipe flute instrument. The construction date of Anyue No.3 ancient grave is 357, so it can be said that Xiao was already used in Koguryo in the middle of the 4th century.

At the end of the 5th century, Xiao was also found in the No.1 tomb of Changchuan in Ji 'an area. At that time, together with Ruan Xian and Dajiao, Xiao painted on the top of the north wall algae well. The appearance of Xiao in Anyue No.3 Tomb and Ji 'an Changchuan No.1 Tomb fully proved that Xiao had existed in the Three Kingdoms period.

During the unification of Silla, Xiao's pattern was also found in the music picture of Three Stone Statues of Amitabha in Ming Dynasty in Beiyan Temple, Yanqi County, South Chungcheongnam-do. In Xiao's design, there are not only flutes, but also flutes.

Xiao was widely used during the Koryo period, when Korean music flowed into the Korean peninsula. At that time, Sheng Da gagaku of China entered the Korean peninsula with Tang Yue. With the influx of music, a large number of Chinese musical instruments were also transported to the Korean peninsula. Among these instruments, Xiao Ye is included. At this time, there are multiple flutes and single flutes. Paixiao was considered as an elegant musical instrument at that time, which was specially used to play elegant music and was divided into Gordon and Xuanjia. On the other hand, Dong Xiao is listed in the category of instruments specially played in the Tang Dynasty.

During the Korean period, Dong Xiao was not only used to play music in the Tang Dynasty, but also used in country music. However, because Tang Le's Huang Zhong is in the key of C, and Xiang Yue's Huang Zhong is in the key of bE, their pitches are different, so Dong Xiao plays Tang Yue and Xiang Yue differently. In other words, during the Korean period, people improved Dong Xiao so that it could be used to play country music. In this way, there is a difference between playing Tang Le's Lezheng Dong Xiao and playing Dong Xiao's country music.

As for the origin of piccolo, some people think that it is consistent with the name of piccolo in the song of piccolo, and the two are interrelated; Some people think that it was introduced from the Qing dynasty during the pure ancestor period of Korea; Others think that these statements are not valid, because neither of the above two statements has a definite basis. There is no record of piccolo in the chapters introducing various musical instruments, which shows that piccolo did not appear in the early Korean era. Its appearance should be postponed until the late Korean era.
