Vasiliev is recognized by international historians as one of the authorities on Byzantine history and culture in the 20th century. His History of Byzantine Empire is a classic work written on the basis of analyzing a large number of Byzantine original documents and making full use of previous research results. About the author:
A.A. Vasiliev (1867- 1953) is recognized by international historians as one of the most authoritative Byzantine historical and cultural researchers since the mid-20th century. He studied under a professional Byzantine scholar at St. Petersburg University and later taught Arabic there. 1897 to 1900 to go to Paris for further study. 1902, he accompanied Nicholas Marr to inspect St. Catherine's monastery in Sinai Peninsula. 1904 to 19 12 teaches at hutatu university. 19 12 returned to teach at St. Petersburg University and was elected as an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. From 65438 to 0925, he moved to the United States and worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 1944, he moved to the East Baden Oak Research Center of Harvard University. Vasiliev wrote many books, including Byzantium and Arabs, History of Byzantine Empire, Two Worlds: Medieval Thoughts of the West and the East, Slavs in Greece and so on.
