The Origin and History of Shandong Place Names
The word "Shandong" first appeared in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. At that time, "Shandong" refers to the east of Mount Gan. With the development of history, ideas have changed. Shandong in the Eastern Han Dynasty refers to the east of Taihang Mountain. In the Ming Dynasty, Shandong was established as a province. It was not until the early Qing Dynasty that "Shandong" became the proper name of this province.
