The Kingdom of Tonga, referred to as Tonga for short, belongs to Oceania, located in the west of the South Pacific Ocean and west of the international international date line. It is an island country consisting of 65,438+073 islands, 36 of which are inhabited, most of which are coral islands.

Historical evolution:

1845, the kingdom of Tonga was formed by the union of several islands.

A constitutional monarchy has been implemented since 1875.

1900 became a British protectorate.

1became independent on June 4th, 970, and became a member of the Commonwealth and the188th member of the United Nations.

On July 29th, 2008, King Tupou V of Tonga said that he would hand over power to the National Assembly, give up power and move towards democracy, but still retain the constitutional monarchy. He is the only country in the South Pacific that maintains a monarchy.
