The first day of the Cambodian New Year is called "Shounian", also known as "Water-splashing Festival", which is the last day when people are ready to end the old year and enter the new year. The second day is called "resignation" and the third day is called "Chinese New Year".
The New Year in Cambodia coincides with the birthday of Buddha Sakyamuni (May 13, April 14- 16). Therefore, in Cambodia, a country where all people believe in Hinayana Buddhism, the New Year is also their biggest festival.
