Mr. Xiao Jiansheng is a native of Dongkou, Hunan. Sanxian performer, educator, professor of China Conservatory of Music. He is a member of China Musicians Association, a member of China Old Professors Association, an honorary director of China National Orchestral Society, and an executive director of Beijing Chinese Traditional Music Association. He is an expert enjoying special government allowance.
He studied in Hunan Provincial No.1 Middle School in his early years, and volunteered to join the army in August 1949 as a performer of the Propaganda Team of the Political Department of the Fourth Field Army. In the same year, he was admitted to the Music Department of the Central South Military Academy, majoring in Sanxian, a national musical instrument, and studied under teachers Chen Yongchang and Wei Fuhan. After graduation, he successively worked as a member of the Central South Army Art College's Music Team, a member of the Central South Army Art Theater Band, a performer of the Central South Military Region Art Troupe, and a performer of the General Political Art Troupe in 1954. In the 195s, in Beijing, he studied various traditional sanxian playing techniques from famous sanxian artists such as Bai Fengyan, Bai Fengqi, Pu Xuezhai and Cao Dongfu. Since 1964, he has been a Sanxian teacher in the Instrumental Music Department of China Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Xiao Jiansheng regards Sanxian and Sanxian teaching as more important than life. For decades, he devoted himself to studying and reforming Sanxian, and silently taught and educated people in his post with exquisite skills and selfless dedication.
Many art colleges in China didn't set up Sanxian major, and there are almost no historical materials and systematic teaching materials for reference. In order to make up for this historical gap, Mr. Xiao Jiansheng started from scratch and devoted all his efforts to the teaching, research and creation of Sanxian. Sanxian has a long history, but most of the materials are scattered among the people, and there are not many books. He used the winter and summer vacations to collect traditional songs and techniques and traveled all over the country. In order to keep the excellent tradition of Sanxian and adapt it to the needs of historical development, he boldly transplanted, adapted and created a large number of Sanxian songs, among which a considerable number of works such as Plum Blossom Melody, Drum in Coconut Grove and Liu Hulan have become outstanding works in the history of Sanxian, and gradually pushed Sanxian to a new position as a solo instrument.
in order to improve the artistic charm of sanxian, Mr. Xiao Jiansheng made a systematic reform on sanxian instruments, and designed 6-type sanxian, 8-type sanxian, 86-type treble sanxian, children sanxian and so on. The design scheme was made by Mr. Song Guangning, an instrument producer, and put into the market, which has been widely used by sanxian players at home and abroad. In 1984, more than 3 scholars participated in the technical appraisal of "8-type Big Sanxian", and agreed that "Comrade Xiao Jiansheng's reform and design of Big Sanxian has achieved the expected results, which is a successful breakthrough reform of the old-fashioned Big Sanxian, and has greatly improved and developed its acoustic effect and playing skills. It is a new stage in the development history of Sanxian, and its achievements are the first in China, so it should continue to be produced and expanded." In 1991, the Ministry of Culture and Beijing First Light Industry Corporation jointly hosted the technical appraisal meeting of "Type 86 Tri-string", and the appraisal committee fully affirmed his design: "On the basis of retaining the timbre characteristics, playing techniques and national modeling of the traditional Tri-string,' Type 86 Tri-string' was greatly improved, with reasonable design, excellent production and certain advancement, and the development of this project was successful."
Mr. Xiao Jiansheng treats his students as his own. In order to cultivate students' habit of practicing morning exercises, he often rides his bike to school before dawn to take the students to practice the piano. At the same time, he also attaches great importance to students' ideological and moral education. Today, his students are all over the world, and they have won prizes in various national competitions. For example, Zhao Chengwei has become a famous three-string performer and educator in China.
Xiao Jiansheng still maintains a vigorous working condition after his retirement. Because Sanxian requires high quality of python skin, and python is a national first-class protected animal, the price of python skin has soared and Sanxian is expensive, which seriously affects the popularization and development of Sanxian. Therefore, in 25, Xiao Jiansheng and Professor Zhao Chengwei of China Conservatory of Music undertook the scientific research project of "Research and Experiment of Substituting Mangskin for National Musical Instruments". Xiao Jiansheng was old and weak at that time, but he still presided over the trial production of artificial leather despite his illness. After hundreds of tests, a number of artificial leather musical instruments were finally produced, including 6-type and 8-type big sanxian, 86-type high-pitched sanxian, Leiqin, gaohu, Zhonghu, etc., and the artificial leather bass sanxian was developed, which opened the way for the three-string to replace python skin and laid the foundation for further research and development of python skin for future generations. This project not only protects the ecological resources, but also inherits and develops the national music culture ","Especially the three-stringed instruments have reached the natural sound quality level ". In 26, Jiang Shuilin, a three-string performer, performed in the Golden Hall of Vienna, Switzerland, Germany and other places with "8-type artificial leather big three-string", which was warmly welcomed by foreign friends.
