In 1819 he became completely deaf, which undoubtedly completely deprived him of his conducting and performing rights. Even daily communication seems very difficult. Beethoven needed a "Conversationshefte" (Konversationshefte) from 1818 onwards in order to "converse" with people. It is in this way that many of Beethoven's words have been preserved and become important materials for future generations to study his life.
But this does not mean that Beethoven did nothing during this period. During the Congress of Vienna in 1814/15 he wrote a large-scale cantata called Der glorreicher Augenblick (Op. 136) and a novel entitled Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt (The Calm Sea and the Journey to Happiness). choral works.
The lyrics of the latter are taken from Goethe and dedicated to Goethe. But even though the poet received a manuscript and a follow-up letter from Beethoven, he did not respond. In 1818, Beethoven wrote "Hammer Key Piano Sonata" (No. 29), marking the beginning of a new round of his creation. After Beethoven passed the crisis, the spiritual outlook of his works changed accordingly.
At the same time, he was experimenting with new sound effects. Some critics believe that Beethoven in his later period did not pay attention to whether his works were harmonious or feasible. Everything had to follow his conception, and blamed his deafness. The words of Beethoven's student Czerny are an example: "Beethoven's third style began during his gradual deafness, which resulted in the unique style of his last three piano sonatas, with many dissonant harmonies." p>
