The Shenyang Conservatory of Music is one. The predecessor of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music is the Lu Xun Art Institute established in 1938. It is China’s first-class institution. The first higher art college founded by the Party. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the college moved from Yan'an to Northeast China and was renamed Northeast Lu Xun College of Literature and Art in 1949. In 1953, Northeast Music College was established on the basis of the Music Department of Northeast Lu Xun Institute of Literature and Art, and in 1958 it was renamed Shenyang Conservatory of Music.

The college currently has four campuses: Sanhao Campus, Changqing Campus, Taoxian Campus and Dalian Campus. The college focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate education, and also has an affiliated secondary music school and an affiliated secondary dance school. It has 17 undergraduate majors in art theory, music and dance, drama and film and television, and design. Among them, music performance and composition and composition technology theory have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. The college has two first-level master's degree authorization points in art theory and music and dance awarded by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. The first batch of Master of Arts (MFA) degree conferring rights approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. In 2016, the college was designated by the Liaoning Provincial People's Government as a key university for the construction of first-class universities in Liaoning Province, and "Music and Dance" was a first-class construction discipline in Liaoning Province. In 2019, the school was identified by the provincial government as one of the 13 key supporting universities for the "double first-class" discipline construction of higher education institutions in Liaoning Province.
