Soft Rock music: a kind of rock music with lyric rock as the main singing style, which was produced in the early 197s, originally referring to those rock music based on folk songs without electro-acoustic instruments. Later, those rock music with beautiful and smooth melody, although using electro-acoustic instruments, were also called soft rock. This kind of music is called "the middle way" in the American record industry. Famous soft rock musicians include James Taylor, Neil Young, Cat Stevens and The Carpenters. Soft rock in a broad sense refers to all lyric songs with soft rock rhythm and using electro-acoustic instruments. Similar to Pop, most pop songs in Hong Kong and Taiwan can be classified as soft rock.
