Chen Guochan was born in Taishan, a place where silk and bamboo flourish in Guangdong. He studied folk music since he was a child. At the age of 15, he studied Gaohu under Huang Risheng, and became brothers with Yu Qiwei. Although they both studied together, he and his senior brother Yu Qiwei have different playing styles. With his skillful skills and unique understanding of Guangdong music, he has won many provincial and municipal Gaohu competitions, and has been invited to perform at home and abroad and in Hong Kong many times. Chen Guozan's playing has gorgeous, round, exquisite and clear sound, and what's even more valuable is that he always carries his voice with emotion, revealing his love for life in the smooth and beautiful melody. He is not only able to play traditional classic music "Birds in the Forest", "Chanyuan Bells", etc. with ease, but he also absorbs the essence of foreign works and uses them for his own purposes. Abing's erhu solo "Listening to the Pine" and violin piece "Chaldas Dance" can all be interpreted in a different style through Chen Guochan's bow and strings.
