How to make a simple percussion instrument - drum:
1. Find the drum base. You can use an old pot, bowl, vase, or bucket. Choose a sturdy, deep-bottomed container for the drum base. Avoid containers made of glass or other fragile items.
2. Buy a bag of balloons. Since you may pop several balloons while making the drum, it's a good idea to purchase multiple balloons. Choose large, sturdy balloons. You may need to purchase a variety of balloon sizes to make sure you find one that will fit the drum base.
3. Cut off one end of the balloon. Take a pair of scissors and cut off the narrowed end of the balloon.
4. Spread the balloons on the drum base. Use one hand to secure the balloon to one end of the drum base and the other hand to stretch the balloon to the other side of the drum base. Let the balloon cover the opening of the pot, vase, or bucket that will serve as the drum's base.
5. Fix the balloon with tape. Use heavy-duty tape or duct tape to secure the balloon around the perimeter of the drum base.
6. Use a stick to hit the balloon drum. You can use chopsticks, pencils, or other long, thin objects to play the drum.
