Wuhan Conservatory of Music

Located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, it is one of the nine independently established music conservatories in China and the only independently established higher music institution in central China. It is a master's degree Awarding unit, one of the first batch of master of art professional degree education pilot units in the country, and social art level examination institution.

The starting point for the establishment of Wuhan Conservatory of Music was the Central South Music College, which was established in 1953 from the music departments of the Central South University of Literature and Art, the South China People's College of Literature and Art, and the Guangxi Provincial Art College.

The respective predecessors of the music departments of the above three schools: the predecessor of Central South University of Literature and Art, Zhongyuan University School of Literature and Art, its Wuchang Art College, which it took over in 1949, and the Hunan University School of Literature and Art, which was merged in 1950.

The Guangdong Provincial Art College, Guangzhou Municipal Art College and the Hong Kong Chinese Conservatory of Music, which form the South China People's College of Literature and Arts; the Guangxi Provincial Art Teacher Training Class, the predecessor of the Guangxi Provincial Art College, etc.

In 1958, Central South Music College merged with Wuhan Art Normal College to form Hubei Art College (named "Hubei Art College" from 1972 to 1978). It began to recruit master's degree students in 1979. In 1985, it was renamed Wuhan Conservatory of Music.

Teaching units such as the School of Education, the School of Performing Arts, the Graduate Department, the School of Marxism, the Public Basic Course Department, the School of Continuing Education (including adult undergraduate education), the Affiliated Middle School, and the Affiliated Primary School offer 9 general undergraduate majors.
