The subjects of the 2023 Shaoyang High School Entrance Examination are 120 points each for Chinese, mathematics, and English (including 10 points each for listening and speaking), 100 points each for ethics and rule of law, physics, chemistry, history, biology, and geography, and 50 points for physical education. The total score of the high school entrance examination is 1010 points.

The scores and test times for Chinese, mathematics, and English subjects remain unchanged, and the test time for ethics and rule of law, physics, chemistry, history, politics, and geography has been reduced from the original (2021) 90 minutes to 70 minutes.

The order of test subjects has been optimized and adjusted. For details, please see the attachment "Junior Middle School Academic Level Test Subject Timetable"; the break interval between two subjects (excluding lunch break) is adjusted to 50 minutes.

Starting from 2021, Jiangxi Province’s high school entrance examination reform will be officially implemented, and the province will implement junior high school academic proficiency examinations. Graduates of the third grade of junior high school in 2020 will still take the provincial secondary school admissions examination unified by the Provincial Education Examination Authority.

Five Optimizations of the New High School Entrance Examination Reform

The first is to reform and optimize the examination system to reduce the burden of students' preparation for the examination. Music, art and local courses will be added to the academic proficiency test subjects for junior high school students on the existing basis. However, the new academic test subjects will not be included in the admission score and will be organized and implemented by the school, as long as the results are passed.

The second is to reform and optimize examination methods and implement classified and diversified assessments. According to the characteristics of the subject, different examination methods are adopted, such as open book and closed book, paper and pencil examination and experimental operation examination, compulsory examination and optional examination.

The third is to reform and optimize examination content and guide the development of quality education. Improve the quality of propositions and pay attention to the cultivation of students' hands-on ability. A new biological experiment operation test was added, and the score of the physics, chemistry, and biology experiment operation examination was increased to 15 points.

The fourth is to reform and optimize the admission method to form a "one basis and one combination" model. Use comprehensive quality evaluation as a basis or reference for high school admissions. The physical education and health score will be increased from the current 50 points to 60 points, and the total score for admission to higher education will be adjusted from the current 700 points to 710 points.

The fifth is to reform and optimize the enrollment plan and appropriately increase the enrollment ratio of ordinary high schools. Establish a scientific and reasonable adjustment mechanism for the proportion of general vocational education, strengthen the construction of general high schools, further expand the enrollment scale of general high schools, and increase the enrollment rate of general high schools.
