Edit this section of 10 entry-level Gothic records
1. Bauhaus-In The Flat Field
The first recommendation is Bauhaus’s debut album "In The Flat Field" was released shortly after the release of the single "Bela Lugosi'Dead", before Murphy and the other band members considered themselves a goth group. Maybe many people didn't like "In The Flat Field", thinking that the songs on the album were too downbeat. In my personal opinion, "In The Flat Field", like the later "Mask", is indeed a masterpiece of Bauhaus. The music is dark but danceable, and the works in the album reflect Bauhaus's unique sense of humor.
2. Joy Division-Unknown Pleasures
Every work published by Joy Division is a masterpiece. The style of the Warsaw era in the early days of the band's establishment was black punk influenced by Sex Pistol. Joy Division gradually moved from primitive roughness to introspective goth. In the most representative album Unknown Pleasures, Ian Curtis composed a large number of vaguely conceptual but imaginative songs. This album continues Cutis' theme of longing for death. Joy Division cannot be called a Gothic band in a strict sense, but the music itself had a profound influence on the subsequent Gothic style, and the blackness of the music is interoperable.
3. Siouxsie and the Banshees-Once Upon a Time
Severin’s unique arrangement and Sioux’s voice constitute the most beautiful music of the later period. The style of Siouxsie and the Banshees' albums changes and progresses with each album, from punk to beautiful love songs. From this point of view, not everyone can accept it. What is recommended here is the single collection Once Upon a Time, which represents early gothy, while the subsequent works of Twice Upon a Time are more commercial and mature. Overall Siouxsie and the Banshees is different from Joy Division and Bauhaus. As we listen to their music, Banshee guides us through the world of strings and Sitars samples.
4. Cure-Faith
Thanks to Cure and the British for introducing the word "Gothic" to the world. In its early days, Cure was somewhat similar to Banshees (Robert Smith once participated in the Banshees tour). After the band got out of the quagmire of punk, their music style tended to be gothic. The dark and gloomy themes of death and loneliness pervaded their three best albums: Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography, among which Faith was the most outstanding.
5. Christian Death-Only Theater of Pain
In the 1980s, young Rozz Williams founded the most famous goth band in the United States, Christian Death. They are the most popular among the goths. Experimental and plot-changing. The low-budget CD-Only Theater of Pain is the most iconic, with themes of heretical religion and evil perfectly presented in Williams' stunning voice. The Catastrophe Ballet, which is also worth recommending, is more low-key and incorporates elements of opera.
Valor's work since Williams left the team has been somewhat unrestrained and silly.
6. And Also the Trees-Evening of the 24th
One of the important components of the early Gothic movement, And Also the Trees, is now rarely noticed. The band has created a lot of excellent, sad music that every goth music lover should appreciate. From a technical point of view, And Also the Trees cannot be compared with today's goths, but this does not prevent us from looking for sincere emotions in their music. The best way to understand And Also the Trees is to experience them live. Evening of the 24th contains a large number of songs from the band's live performance in 1986, which are all from the band's most successful works.
7. Sisters of Mercy-Floodland
The name Sisters of Mercy has become the best spokesperson for Gothic music in many people’s minds, and Andrew Eldrich, the lead singer of the band from Leeds, England It's natural to become the prince in the kingdom of goth music. From a personal point of view, the 1987 album Floodland is the masterpiece of the Sisters of Mercy. With the keyboard and drum machine, the album has the characteristics of a completely gothic music, and the lyrics are low-key but show pretentiousness. There is no doubt that Sisters of Mercy is the brightest point in the history of goth music.
8. Death In June-But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter
Death In June, a band that always discusses the themes of love and death. Listening to their music is like symbolic reference to ancient rituals and becoming a self-indulgent pagan. The early Death In June was more experimental, such as The Cathedral of Tears published in 1991 (sampling militaristic hymns and blood-coagulating screams). Later works adopted more folk-like creative techniques, such as 1992's But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?, in addition to the annoying personal political warnings of the artist behind the music, the album does a great job in other aspects, such as the personalized musical structure.
9. The Swans-The Burning World
From the day it existed, The Swans has always maintained the revolutionary nature of underground music, and at this point they are worthy Respectful. In the past 10 years, many aspects of music style, expression, structure, etc. have changed during the creation and early years. The only thing that remains unchanged is that the band has always maintained the original and sincere appearance of Gothic music. In the album The Burning World, Michael Gira expresses his musical ideas with his strong Southern American singing. Pretty vague but wonderful. In fact, Swans has many excellent records, some of which are hard to buy now. It is recommended to find any records released by the band after 1987. I believe you will fall in love with them.
10. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds-Tender Prey
It is difficult to generalize Nick Cave’s music as goth. The styles of each of his albums are so different. big. Tender Prey is Nick Cave's peak work. As with previous albums, it is difficult to classify it into a style, although Bad Seeds at this time was moving closer to Gothic in terms of musical orientation.
Tender Prey contains various elements of southern blues, death metal, and an Australian man. Well, now there is enough reason to position Tender Prey as a "country-blues-goth" album.
Edit this section to include several famous gothic bands
Autumn Tear
A complete tragedy and symphony that combines hymns and classical music. music. They are also influenced by Dead Can Dance, Stoa, Enya, etc. The symphonic arrangement can easily evoke strong emotions of sadness and loneliness in the listeners, and the darkness in the soul rushes out. His representative works are the trilogy "Love Poems for a Dying Child".
(It’s worth listening to, it’s an absolute classic, but I can’t buy his CD version or the D version. I’ve been looking for it for more than a year, which is sad)
Bauhaus Bauhaus
can definitely be called the originator of Gothic Rock. Marking the true birth of a low-key subculture. The vocal, dramatic, metal and electronic components make their music full of emotion, and the haunting melodies bring people to the edge of psychedelic state. (I’ve never heard of it, so don’t laugh)
Christian Death
One of the most important bands in the Goth world, they are the most experimental among the Goths. The sex and plot changes, and the slow riffs are not death-y enough, but the ominous synthetic background effects, dark lyrics, and anti-religious sentiment make them unique in the death metal circle. Over the years, the band members have changed several times, and the style of nearly thirty albums can no longer be summarized as goth, but the anti-religious and radical political tone has never changed. (Williams (band soul)'s talent is unparalleled - it's all chaotic, and the music creates an atmosphere of evil, sadness and wifely beauty... But he committed suicide by hanging himself... . )
Dead Can Dance
An Australian goth band as famous as BAUHAUS, THE SISTER OF MERRY, etc., he uses "ambient pop" and "world beats". The musical technique combines European folk songs, especially musical elements from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Their music is filled with the beauty of loss, regret, sadness, inspiration and nobility, as well as the eternal human goal of achieving a meaningful existence.
Death In June
Death In June, a band that always discusses the themes of love and death. Listening to their music is like symbolic reference to ancient rituals and becoming a self-indulgent pagan. The early Death In June was more experimental and did an excellent job in all aspects.
Nick cave amp; The Bad Seeds NICK CAVE and the Bad Seeds
Nick Cave, the "King of Goths", has gone from being a strange and crazy person in his early years to being a compassionate broadcaster today. Lover, he has always been the most familiar Goth image spokesperson. The deep footprints that Dead Nick has left on the black earth for fifteen years prove that he will always be the Gothic king that we follow closely.
(Although this Goth prince has many problems in his personal life, his music is not bad. I like it. I recommend listening to his Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds-Murder Ballads (Murder Ballads), which is very classic. Almost every song has a female voice to accompany Nick, even if it's just a scream or a cry.
Among them are P j harvy, and even popular pop singers, very bold and cool)
The Cure treatment
Casual punk pop to gothic dance rock --A musical style originated by them, the occasional sense of wandering, melancholic world view, anxious singing and tangled guitar playing create The Cure's signature sound. Their music makes people appreciate Powerful, passionate and challenging, it takes on colors of loneliness, social alienation and despair, set to a danceable beat.
(Let you feel a different kind of morbid beauty,)
The Land of Fallen Angels
The voice from the depths of the grave, the poetically beautiful lyrics , the solemn, dark and depressing atmosphere in the music makes me always look at this band with a special eye. After the disbandment, soul man Carl McCoy's solo career was equally respectable. May the name Nephilim never be forgotten! The album "Mourning Sun" can be downloaded on eDonkey
The Sister Of Mercy
In many people's minds, the best spokesperson for Gothic music is the weird and unsettling drum The machine rhythm creates a thin but hard black background, and the slightly exotic guitar sound is quickly interspersed in the space supported by the expressionless singing and the deep and depressing bass sound effects...
The Swans Swans
From the day of its existence, The Swans has always maintained the revolutionary nature of underground music, and at this point they are worthy of respect. In the past 10 years, many aspects of music style, expression, structure, etc. have changed during the creation and early years. The only thing that remains unchanged is that the band has always maintained the original and sincere appearance of Gothic music. Swans has many excellent records, some of which are hard to buy now. I recommend you to find any records released by the band after 1987. I believe you will fall in love with them.
