Mao Ning was born in a music family in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. He loved sports since he was a child. He entered the district-level sports school in the third grade of elementary school, the Shenyang City Sports School in the fifth grade, and the Shenyang City Sports School in the sixth grade. Shi Ze entered the Liaoning Provincial Sports School. He was a football player at first, but later changed to track and field and became an athlete of the Liaoning Provincial Track and Field Team.
After graduating from Liaoning Sports Technical College in 1986, Mao Ning chose to stay at the school to teach and became a sports school teacher.
