I don’t know much about music, so I can only express my humble opinion. Don’t dislike it. The music of the old version of Dream of Red Mansions, such as Wu Ning Mei, was mostly gentle with a hint of sadness, and was mostly scored by traditional Chinese instruments such as bamboo flutes and zithers. Compared with the new version of Dream of Red Mansions, it has a stronger classical flavor. As for the music selection by director Li Shaohong in the new version of Dream of Red Mansions, I think he wanted to use sad and low music to highlight the heavy story scenes, just like the music in the previous Daming Palace Ci. However, Daming Palace Ci also uses more traditional musical instruments such as flutes and zheng, giving it a stronger sense of history. As for the music used in the new version of Dream of Red Mansions, it makes people feel sad and not adaptable to the new elements added to the music. I feel that the lament of a woman who wants to stop talking is reflected in the music, and it is accompanied by the plot scenes. Feeling very desolate. So some viewers may find it a little spooky. In addition, in some tense scenes, it feels like some Peking opera-like music styles have been added to highlight the ups and downs of tension in the storyline. In short, no matter which version has its own merits.
