What is the creative background of the musical masterpiece "River Water"?

Slowly and desolate, weeping and complaining, sometimes sad and angry, sometimes passionate...

This was originally a tear-jerking section in the first scene of the music and dance epic "The East is Red", "The Age of Misery" , the touching soundtrack - the double-pipe solo piece "River Water". This piece of music with strong artistic appeal was not composed by any famous artist, but came from a Shengguan piece in "Liaonan Drum Music". It is said that this tune has appeared in the Northern and Southern Songs of the Yuan and Ming dynasties, and its original name was "Jiang Er Shui". It was originally a vocal tune. Later, it was often used in Kun Opera and Peking Opera to sing during celebration banquets or military campaigns. The tune is melodious and elegant. It was later adapted into a double-pipe solo piece (the musical mood before and after the adaptation was very different). It premiered at the first Yangcheng Flower Festival in Guangzhou in 1962 and was well received by the audience.

Mr. Huang Haihuai transplanted this piece into an Erhu solo piece. In May 1963, his student Wu Shuhua participated in the "Fourth 'Shanghai Spring' National First Erhu Solo Competition" and won the first prize. A huge success.

Since its birth, the Erhu solo piece "River Water" has been performed for more than forty years and has become one of the compulsory repertoire for Erhu players. Its popularity has far exceeded that of the original double-barreled piece. As a solo piece, many young music lovers and people in the foreign music industry regard this piece as a window to understand our country's traditional folk music.
