Introduction to Zhao Jiping

Zhao Jiping, born in Pingliang, Gansu Province in August 1945, is a Chinese composer and graduated from Xi'an Conservatory of Music.

In 1970, he was assigned to work at the Shaanxi Opera Research Institute. In 1978, he entered the Central Conservatory of Music for further studies. In 1979, he created the orchestral piece "Sketches of Southern Shaanxi".

In 1984, he composed the music for "Yellow Earth", the first film directed by Chen Kaige, and began to create film and television music.

In 1987, the film music composed for "Red Sorghum" won the Best Music Award at the 8th China Film Golden Rooster Awards.

In 2004, he was elected chairman of the Shaanxi Federation of Literary and Art Circles. In 2008, he took office as the president of Xi'an Conservatory of Music. In 2009, he was elected as the seventh chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association. In February 2010, he was selected as the most culturally influential person in Shaanxi.

On December 21, 2013, he won the 9th China Golden Record Award. In 2015, he was elected as the Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association. In 2017, the "Violin Concerto No. 1" composed by him premiered at the National Center for the Performing Arts. In 2019, "Symphony of Fengya Ode" created by him premiered in Shaanxi.
