Tianjin Concert Hall's Witness to Tianjin's Brilliant Film Industry

According to Yang Wenwen, at the beginning of its construction in 1922, Tianjin Concert Hall was called Ping 'an Cinema, with a total construction area of 3,434 square meters. There were only movies and no other performances. Because it is located in the center of Tianjin, and at the beginning of the cinema's construction, it showed world-class Hollywood blockbusters, and the attendance rate was extremely high, so it became famous. In 1956, after Ping An Cinema was nationalized, it was named Tianjin Concert Hall. Yang Wenwen introduced that the records of movies and performances in the concert hall in the first few years were originally very detailed and comprehensive, but many precious materials were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. However, the former Ping 'an Cinema created a glorious history of Tianjin film industry in that era when cultural life was relatively scarce.

It is reported that Ping 'an Cinema is the earliest cinema established in Tianjin and the first one run by foreigners. After four relocations, it finally settled in Xiaobailou. In the history of playing movies in Ping 'an Cinema, in 19, a silent short film was shown with a hand projector. In 1924, on March 23rd after Lenin's death, more than 5 people from the Socialist Youth League and patriotic youths from all walks of life led by Tianjin prefectural committee held a memorial meeting here. After the meeting, the documentary film "Lenin's Funeral" was shown. At that time, the title of the film used was "Lenin's Funeral", with six copies of * * *, which was the record of the earliest screening of Soviet films in Tianjin. One day at the end of 1929, there was a sound film, the American Fox film "Singing and Dancing". This is the first time that Tianjin has shown a sound film, which is the first time that Tianjin has shown a sound film. In addition, in terms of publicity, the managers at that time were also ingenious. In order to make the film more popular, during the screening of the documentary of World War I, the staff borrowed armored vehicles from the American military camp (located at the Hexi Campus of Tianjin Medical University at the intersection of Machang Road and Guangdong Road) and placed them at the entrance of the cinema to make live advertisements for the film. This is the first time that Tianjin film industry used physical objects as film advertisements. These past events, which have been dusted off, have become a bit of a record of the history of Ping An Cinema. In 1956, Ping An Cinema was nationalized and named Tianjin Concert Hall. Since then, it has not only played movies, but also held music performances and various commemorative activities.

In recent years, while adhering to elegant cultural performances, the concert hall has also continued to reserve a place for the public to watch movies. In September, 1999, Tianjin Concert Hall spent 1, yuan to buy out the right to broadcast the film "Fantasy in Spring" in Tianjin. This move has created a precedent for the film industry in Tianjin. Out of confidence in the market feedback of this film directed by Teng Wenji and starring Shao Bing and Qu Ying, the film achieved good results after its exclusive release in the concert hall.
