The first stop on the spiritual journey—Scarsdale, the American countryside

If you miss the train I'm on

You will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

A hundred miles, a hundred miles

A hundred miles, a hundred miles

Whenever the song "500 miles" sounds, It always takes away all my fatigue and unhappiness. I have always yearned for Tao Yuanming’s pastoral life. I went to Hongcun and Xidi in Anhui and Wuzhen in Zhejiang. In this kind of small town, I feel that time passes very slowly, people and horses also move very slowly, and what happens every day is real. Today I am going to the American countryside, to a place that slows me down just like the song "500 miles".

We have been playing in New York a few days ago, so we are going to rent a car and go to Scarsdale, which is not far away, a town located in Westchester County, New York, USA. When we arrived, it was around 10 in the morning. The first thing that caught our eyes was the buildings here, most of which were in Tudor style. While we were standing outside admiring it, a local invited us in to take a look. When we came in, we saw that the roof was spire-shaped, with many grids and straight lines on the top. The house had one or more layers of transverse gables and wall panels. There are many reliefs painted on it, and every house has a long window. This building is so beautiful. I feel like living in it would be like living in a fairy tale world.

Next we went to the Westchester Broadway Theater and watched the musical "Sisters Are Crazy" which I have always been thinking about. The ticket price is 280 yuan per person. There has been a performance in Beijing before, and the price is 180 yuan per person. , but no matter how expensive the ticket is today, I must watch it. When I saw the nun leading her fans to break the convent by singing, I was so moved that I cried. I think what moved me was not the scene in the movie, but that I finally came to the place I like and saw my favorite musical too. Excited, you must have experienced this feeling too!

Next we went to several historical sites nearby, including the Jacob Purdy House, St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, the Kudner-Haight Building and the Westchester Hill Tombs garden. It's clean and tidy here. I walked slowly and quietly through each site. The little stories of each site made me reflect for a long time.

In the afternoon we came to a Catholic church near a small town, and happened to see a lot of people gathering for dinner, and there was a lot of delicious food. Everyone drank beer and listened to music together, and there were many children laughing and running around. The local people enthusiastically invited us to join us and told us that the church would hold a dinner party every other week, and anyone with time could attend. We all watched the small musical at the door. We hummed and sang along with the speakers. We felt that everything here was harmonious and beautiful.

There is a lively commercial shopping area in Scarsdale, which we walked to. There are many unique small restaurants and shops in the shopping area. We entered a warmly decorated restaurant that sold some fast food. We ordered sandwiches, grilled lobster and grilled chicken. The sandwich is filled with cranberry sauce, which is sweet and delicious. The lobster was grilled very crispy, and we asked for two mustard sauces. The grilled chicken was really delicious when dipped in mustard sauce.

This town has many hotels and tourist facilities. We planned to stay in a hotel at first. But I really wanted to live in this fairy tale-like house, so I stayed in a local B&B. It’s only about $10 a night, which is so cheap! In the evening, the owner of the B&B also brought us freshly baked hot dogs. We asked for money, but the owner didn't want it. I was deeply moved by the enthusiastic people in this land.

Generally speaking, Scarsdale is a relatively wealthy town with relatively complete facilities. Although we visited a lot of places in one day, we didn’t feel tired. We just felt that a real and beautiful day was slowly coming to an end.
