Because the rhythms of lullabies and barcarolles are very close, and they both have lyrical melodies and quiet medicinal atmospheres, and have many different characteristics, the German composer Richard Strauss included them in his "Family Symphony" "The lullaby uses the melody of Mendelssohn's "Barcarolle".

Lullaby has its own characteristics. Its musical image generally has the characteristics of tranquility, kindness, tenderness, caressing and sincerity; the melody is lyrical, beautiful and quiet; the melody is relatively stable, the range is moderate, and does not need to be too high. Sounds that are too low have little fluctuation; the beats are mostly in compound beats such as 2/4, 4/4, 6/8, etc., and there are also 3/4 beats. The rhythm and beats do not emphasize the accent, but the rhythm is neat to suit the performance. The characteristics of the cradle are slow and swaying. The tempo is slow, mostly Andante; the intensity is weak, generally no more than medium forte (mf); the mode is generally a clear major mode; the performance is usually a female solo. In order to express this relatively peaceful mood, their harmonic arrangements are relatively simple, with soft arpeggios and swinging accompaniment patterns running through the whole song, creating the feeling of a cradle swinging rhythmically.
