The Curtis Institute of Music has 25 piano rooms, 2 Mohler organs, 5-row Skinner organs, 2 fully equipped percussion rooms, 72 Steinway grand pianos, each Piano students can borrow a Steinway piano to keep in their dormitories. The college also has a fully functional concert hall and opera house. The institute's music library has 40,000 volumes and contains rare scores, letters and early editions of books. The orchestra library houses the complete music collection of Leopold Storkowsky, including his huge private collection and his collection of percussion instruments. The library also has a musical instrument library and an appreciation room. Other collections include autographed manuscripts by Mozart, Liszt, Schubert, and Schumann, as well as music prints from the 18th and 19th centuries collected by Charles Jarvis. In addition, the long-established "Wednesday Afternoon Tea" event attracts widespread participation from staff and students. Classes during this period are often interrupted by entertainment or interesting conversations. For students, study life at the Curtis Institute of Music is both rigorous and lively, with a relaxed campus atmosphere that is full of competition.
