"Moonlight Night on the Spring River" was originally a piece of music adapted and renamed by Liu Yaozhang based on the traditional pipa song "Sunset Flute and Drum". The music shows people singing, dancing and singing to the accompaniment of flute and drum as the sun sets. The moving scene of returning to the boat. The choreographer gave this piece of music a new interpretation and a new artistic image.
The dance shows an ancient girl walking among the flowers on the riverside on a moonlit night in spring, feeling emotional at the scene, and imagining her happy and happy love life in the future. The dancer wears a blue dress and holds a white feather folding fan in both hands. The dance movements all adopt the movements, postures and shapes of Chinese classical dance style. Through "smelling flowers" and "photography" (reflecting one's own face on the river) Figures), "Listening to Birdsong", "Learning to Fly Birds" and "Imaginary Love and Happiness" and other plots show the specific environment and the characters' thoughts and feelings. The success of this dance creation performance is due not only to the choreographer Li Chenglian’s profound attainments in Chinese classical dance and choreographic skills, but also to the performer Chen Ailian’s excellent control of the Chinese classical dance style, delicate and affectionate movements, and the creation of a typical Inseparable from the image of classical girl dance.
In 1959, Beijing Film Studio included this dance work in the color stage art film "A Hundred Phoenixes Chaoyang". In 1962, at the 8th World Youth and Student Peace and Friendship Festival held in Helsinki, Finland, the female solo dance "Spring River Flower Moonlight Night" performed by Chen Ailian won the gold medal in classical dance in the dance competition, winning honor for the motherland. In 1994, this work won the Golden Statue Award for Classic Works in the "Chinese Nation's 20th Century Dance Classics" competition.
